Practicalities
A few simple points to ensure a comfortable stay
Accessibility
Maison des Aigles includes steep internal staircases. Most guests enjoy their quirky character, but they are not for everyone — and unfortunately they are not suitable for anyone with reduced mobility.
Facilities
The house is equipped with all the basics, including a washing machine, microwave, coffee grinder, and fondue set. There is also a gas barbecue for the garden. Please note there is no television or dishwasher.
The internet connection is very fast and reliable (including for streaming) and works throughout the house and garden.
You are welcome to enjoy the books and old-school CD collection.
Neighbours
Maison des Aigles sits on the edge of a hamlet and while the population is tiny, we ask that you are considerate of residents. The hamlet features an artisanal leather workshop and a weekly yoga group.

The nearest airports are Perpignan, Carcassonne, Toulouse, and Béziers. Girona airport in Spain is also within range.
-
Realistically, yes. Maison des Aigles is located in a remote hamlet with no public transport available.
The road up the mountainside is excellent. Within the hamlet, the streets are relatively narrow and parking is limited. We will advise you on the practicalities of this before you arrive.
The house sits in an area where it is obligatory to use all-weather tyres or carry snow chains during the winter months — essential for the occasional snowfall. This has become increasingly common across mountainous or hilly regions of France. Most car hire companies will supply what you need for a small surcharge.
Car rental is never cheap but there are ways to minimise costs, including by shopping around for local providers (such as E.Leclerc) and by arranging your own comprehensive insurance instead of buying it from the hire company.
-
Quillan, half an hour’s drive away, is a hub for the region and offers most essentials, including shops and medical facilities.
The nearest shops are in Axat, around 20 minutes away, including a small grocery store, bakery, butcher, and pharmacy. There is a seasonal fruit stall en route during the warmer months.
Lapradelle, 10 minutes away, has a small shop for basics (cash only).
There are much larger supermarkets in Limoux and Perpignan, both around an hour away, where you can choose to stock up before you arrive.
-
Our friendly property manager, Sara, is your first port of call for any problems that arise during your stay.
-
The house will be cleaned and made up ready for your arrival. Additional cleans can be requested at a cost.
